Australia has just experienced it's worst natural disaster, with bushfires destroying entire towns, thousands of houses burnt, and just over two hundred deaths ..

my own house was threatened twice, being forced to evacuate the second time .. thank god for the CFA and Elvis, the gargantuan water-bombing helicopter .. not knowing if you have a house to go home to is absolutely fucking awful ..

these images were taken from the road between Flowerdale and Kinglake West, which were among the worst affected areas ..

i spent the early hours of my birthday with a garden hose in one hand (watching for embers) and a baseball bat in the other (ready to kneecap looters) ..

I have dealt with wild fires in California and am aware how hard they affect you, even if you haven't lost anything. My heart and prayers go out to you and those about you...

during the weeks that the fires threatened, many commentators were drawing parallels between these and the Californian fires ..
